The Syrian Firefly: A safe haven for vulnerable children, offering security, friendship, and engaging learning in a supportive environment
In collaboration with the Syrian Firefly Foundation, the Roya Team organized a skills and creativity development course for primary school students in Idlib, northeastern Syria. The course lasted two months and aimed to promote non-traditional (non-rote) learning, blending knowledge with entertainment, especially for children affected by the region’s harsh conditions.
The course, titled "The Little Engineer," welcomed 60 students who were trained by specialized academic professionals in applied engineering sciences. The curriculum combined both theoretical and practical aspects in a simplified, interactive manner, covering topics like the structure and components of mechanical machinery, including agricultural equipment, through miniature models.
The program adopted an active, engaging learning approach, utilizing games and educational tools within the framework of applied sciences, focusing on areas such as Meccano, Application Cards, and Design Cards—all designed to enhance learning outcomes.
The theoretical segment emphasized analysis and deduction of basic physics and mathematics concepts, while practical activities involved Meccano kits tailored to specific age groups, following a structured curriculum to meet diverse learning needs.
